Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning has condemned proposals by BP to store more petrol at Buncefield. Under existing authorisations, BP do not need to seek permission from Dacorum or any other body to increase petrol storage at the site.
After meeting with BP officials this week, Mike Penning said:
“I told them in no uncertain terms that I categorically do not support increased storage of petrol at Buncefield. It was petrol vapours that caused the explosion back in 2005. They promised me then that they would not increase petrol storage.
“Storing oil on the site is a very different thing to storing petrol which is a very dangerous substance.”
BP are holding information events regarding their proposed changes at Woodhall Farm Community Centre and Leverstock Green Village Hall on Saturday 1st July from 10.00am -12.00 noon.
Jon Wedger is about to embark on a walk from London to Manchester to raise funds and awareness.
